Working out has changed dramatically over the course of the past decade thanks to the number of technical advances that have come to light during that time. One of the best items of technology that I have found is the FitBit, and I have discovered that it can have a huge impact on the way that we workout and understand our fitness.
What is a FitBit?
The FitBit is a clever piece of kit that you can wear round your wrist to track all of your movements and fitness activities during the course of the day. If you like to be given information about your body and exercise, then this is certainly something that you might be interested in, as there are many different things that you could find out.
The step counter is a great part of this device, allowing you to keep track of every step you do. It helps you to realize just how active you are in comparison to the recommended 10,000 steps per day that experts say you should do, and it encourages you to do more steps when you otherwise might have stayed sitting down.
You are also able to measure your heart rate, which is great when you’re exercising. For example, I enjoy using my suspension trainer, and the heart rate monitor helps me to see just how much I’m pushing myself. It can give me an idea of whether I need to step up my workout, whether I’m getting it just right, or whether I should slow down a little.
How can it motivate me to exercise?
The simple fact that you can see how much exercise you’re doing helps you to get the motivation to do a little more than normal. You’re in constant competition with yourself – trying to beat what you achieved on a previous occasion, whether it’s the number of steps you do, or the number of calories you burn, and seeing if you can reach your targets in a faster time.
But not only this – you can also see what your friends are doing by using the FitBit app, which means that you can see where you rank when it comes to the friends you have added to the app. This means that your exercise isn’t only a personal journey, but it’s also something incredibly social that you can share with other people, too.
Where can I get a FitBit?
You can get your FitBit from many places online, including their own direct website, or on stockists such as Amazon, eBay and Tesco. Models start at around $59.00 and range to prices that are much higher, depending on what you want from the device.
Despite the relatively high price tag, especially considering you can pick up other pieces of home workout equipment like the Jungle Gym XT suspension trainer for a similar price, it is a big investment. However, as it doubles up as a watch, it could be something that’s on your shopping list already?
Considering the amount that you are able to get out of the device, and the positive effect that it could have on your health in the future, a FitBit might be the perfect addition to your fitness regime. It has certainly worked wonders for me, and is helping me to find the motivation to exercise when I certainly wouldn’t have bothered in the past!
